For one reason or another, many of us will consider getting injectables at some point in our lives. BOTOX® and fillers can improve our appearance, and help with everything from smoothing wrinkles to softening scars. But before you go under the needle, here’s an easy guide to your options at Honolulu Med Spa.

BOTOX®

If you’re concerned about lines and wrinkles on your upper face, BOTOX® may be able to help. BOTOX® is a purified protein that’s used to temporarily improve crow’s feet and frown lines between the eyebrows. BOTOX® works by blocking the nerve impulses that cause specific facial muscles to contract. Once these muscles relax, the skin naturally smoothes itself and looks more refreshed.

Getting BOTOX® injections is a short, 10-minute process once your aesthetician has discussed your goals with you and analyzed your facial movements. If you’re worried about pain, don’t be! We can numb the area with a topical cream. There may be a little swelling or bruising, but generally there’s no downtime, and the results will last between two to three months.

Juvéderm®

One of the most asked-for fillers available, Juvéderm® uses naturally occurring hyaluronic acid to fill facial wrinkles and folds, especially creases around the nose and mouth. Hyaluronic acid, which helps support and ‘hold up’ skin tissue, is great for adding subtle volume to areas that need it. You can expect to see improvement right away.

The procedure takes less than an hour, and on the odd chance you don’t like the result, it’s completely reversible. Juvéderm® fillers usually last between six months to a year when done right. Because we all produce lots of hyaluronic acid when we’re young, most patients don’t need this filler until after the age of 30.

Juvéderm Voluma

Another HA dermal filler from the Juvéderm collection, Juvéderm Voluma®  is designed to lift and contour the cheek area. We inject Juvéderm Voluma® XC deep into the cheeks to restore volume loss — a common factor of aging. Your aesthetician will carefully evaluate your face from all angles. At Honolulu Med Spa we use a special Magic Needle from France to give you better results with minimal discomfort.

You can expect some minimal swelling and possibly some bruising in your face after your Juvéderm Voluma® injection. These side effects should go away within two weeks. One reason we like Juvéderm Voluma® is because it stays in place and slowly metabolizes over the course of two years – a long time in the world of fillers!

Juvéderm Volbella®  

Of course, we can’t forget something for the lips. Juvéderm Volbella® filler is a clear, all-natural soft gel that was created specifically for natural-looking lip augmentation and vertical lip lines. After consulting with you about your goals, your aesthetician will apply a numbing cream around your lips. After the gel is injected, a vigorous lip massage helps move the product into place.

A little swelling and occasionally some bruising is common with lip fillers, but with a skilled practitioner, you will experience little to no pain during the actual procedure. You should enjoy smoother lip lines and subtle volume in your pout for anywhere up to one year.
