A Non-surgical Facial Volumizing Treatment in Hawaii

THE ROLE OF SCULPTRA AESTHETIC IN THE AGING PROCESS

Aging is a complex process. In the face, a combination of factors leads to an aged appearance. Loss of bony support, facial fat, and soft tissue support lead to a deflated appearance to the face. Collagen breakdown in the skin over time causes decreased skin thickness, the formation of wrinkles, and the loss of firm texture to the skin. Replacing volume by collagen stimulation (neocollagenesis) using Sculptra Aesthetic can lead to a dramatically improved, youthful appearance. This can replace volume caused by soft tissue, fat, and bony loss, allowing the skin to re-drape appropriately, much like re-inflating a half-filled balloon. Collagen is a strong, flexible fibrous type of protein that is found throughout our bodies, including our bones, muscles, tendons, and in the middle or dermis layer of the skin. It acts as the skin’s support structure or scaffolding that helps maintain the skin’s shape. As we age, our body’s collagen production decreases. Gradually, skin loses its youthful bounce, leading to lines, wrinkles, and folds, as well as a loss of skin volume and support.

COLLAGEN EXPLAINED

Collagen is a strong, flexible fibrous type of protein that is found throughout our bodies, including our bones, muscles, tendons, and in the middle or dermis layer of the skin. It acts as the skin’s support structure or scaffolding that helps maintain the skin’s shape. As we age, our body’s collagen production decreases. Gradually, skin loses its youthful bounce, leading to lines, wrinkles, and folds, as well as a loss of skin volume and support. Think of collagen-like springs in a mattress. Over time, the springs weaken and the mattress on top starts to sag and crease. Similar changes in our skin happen as a result of both natural aging and sun exposure.

THE TREATMENT

The good news is that it’s possible to help boost the skin’s own natural collagen production. Sculptra Aesthetic is the only FDA-approved facial injectable treatment on the market that helps boost the skin’s own natural collagen production and treat the underlying causes of aging – the loss of collagen. In doing so, it subtly and gradually adds volume that lifts the soft tissues and plumps the skin from within.

  • Restores Facial Volume and Provides Support to the skin to improve the look of smile lines (called nasolabial folds), marionette lines, pre-auricular wrinkles (the vertical wrinkles in front of the ears), radial cheek folds (vertical wrinkles on the lower cheek), and chin wrinkles
  • Provides Gradual and Natural-Looking Results that become visible over a period of a few months.
  • Long-Lasting – lasts more than 2 years for most patients

WHERE CAN IT BE INJECTED?

Areas frequently targeted for Sculptra Aesthetic treatment include not only deep facial folds such as the nasolabial folds or marionette lines, but also the cheeks, jawline, and temples. Treatment of the temples and brow area can improve facial balance and improve the appearance of the skin around the eye area over time. Sculptra can be used to replace volume in patients following traditional facelifts. Sculptra Aesthetic should not be used around the lips and close to the eye area.

ANYWHERE ELSE?

Aesthetic Sculptra Aesthetic may be used in an “off-label” manner to treat the temples (on the face) as well as other non-facial areas. Wrinkles in the décollete area of the chest respond well to a series of Sculptra Aesthetic. Treatment of the buttocks is also very popular to restore shape and reduce a “pancake butt” look. Many patients opt to use Sculptra in place of surgical butt implants.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Sculptra Aesthetic is approved for 2 years of duration, but clinical studies suggest patients may experience 36 months or more of persistent wrinkle correction.

CAN SCULPTRA BE COMBINED WITH OTHER PROCEDURES?

Yes, Sculptra Aesthetic can be combined with other fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, toxins such as Botox or Dysport. You may also benefit from laser skin rejuvenation treatments.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Most patients will notice visible improvements in their skin after just one treatment. For the best, long-term results we recommend two treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Your Aesthetic Nurse Specialist will discuss your treatment plan with you before you begin.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?

Women and men of all ethnicities, ages, skin colors, and skin concerns are candidates for Sculptra. The beauty of this treatment is it can be customized to your needs. Talk to your Aesthetic Nurse Specialist ahead of your appointment to discuss any concerns about your Sculptra treatment.

Botox® is a purified protein. It’s an FDA-approved prescription injection formulated to temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and “crows feet,” which are also known as “laugh lines.” BOTOX® is also injected into the skin to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating (severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis) when medicines used on the skin (topical) do not work well enough in people 18 years and older.

Honolulu MedSpa’s needles for Botox injections are very small, so you should feel very little pain or none at all. We can also numb the area prior to the injection with a topical anesthetic cream or even a cold pack.

Botox® works by blocking nerve impulses. This reduces the movement of the targeted and treated muscles. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smooths out, allowing the moderate to severe lines to soften or even fade away entirely for a younger, happier look.

*Treatment results may vary. All opinions expressed are personal and subjective to each patient.

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX® LAST?

Just one treatment of Botox® will reverse visible signs of aging almost instantly and with no downtime! Appointments last just a few minutes while the results last up to several months.

Yes, Botox®  has been shown to help with Bruxism (grinding of the teeth). It can also help with the pain that is associated with headaches, earaches, facial pain, and even migraines. Botox® can provide significant relief from jaw pains and other undesirable problems associated with Bruxism.
