CoolSculpting is a non-invasive body contouring procedure that is a non-surgical method to lose unwanted fat. By freezing the unwanted fat cells, it is safer than liposuction and promotes minimal downtime, which allows you to get right back to your daily activities following treatment.
Coolsculpting is not a quick fix or permanent solution to achieve weight loss. However, it does help with those stubborn areas on the body where the fat just doesn’t seem to budge no matter how hard you workout or diet.
Coolsculpting destroys up to 20% of fat which is targeted with each treatment, and is well tolerated by patients. There is such a thing as an ideal patient for CoolSculpting; someone who is at a stable weight, or has recently lost the extra weight putting them within their target “zone” and someone who lives a healthy lifestyle. CoolSculpting is a treatment for those who are stuck with stubborn fat bulges that may be deemed “exercise resistant fat.” If you are looking for general weight loss, start with a healthy eating and exercise plan that you can adopt as a lifestyle choice.
Losing or gaining weight does not destroy fat cells, but instead, changes the size of the fat cells. When you diet, you shrink your fat cells and when you gain weight, your expand your fat cells. Coolsculpting helps by targeting problematic areas with a method known as Cryolypolisis, this destroys up to 20% of fat cells permanently. This is the only known treatment of it’s kind and has been FDA approved for the permanent removal of unwanted fat.
If you have stubborn fat to lose, CoolSculpting is the right choice for you. This treatment is not a quick fix for weight loss and should not be used to drop extra lbs. If you are looking for a sleeker, slimmer profile and have a few problem areas to discuss, give us a call at 808-528-0888 to book a complimentary consultation.
CoolSculpting treatments will be 10% off through the month of August when booked at your consultation appointment. We hope to see you soon!
We’ve all been there, wanting something more than a facial, but maybe we’re not ready to commit to laser just yet. For our patients who are somewhere in between we offer Microneedling, a technique that uses a needle-studded wand to create micro-wounds to the skin. Microneedling can treat a variety of skin issues, including acne scars, sun damage and can also promote collagen growth for those subtle signs of aging. It will soften lines, wrinkles and improve skin texture.
The goal of a microneedling treatment is to stimulate collagen while giving the skin an effective exfoliation. The downtime is very minimal compared to aggressive laser treatments and also more affordable. You may be red for the first 25-72 hours and makeup is avoided for the first 24 hours because the pores on the facial skin are still open. Why is collagen regeneration so important? Collagen is a naturally occurring protein in our bodies that will keep the skin plump and youthful. It helps to smooth fine lines and wrinkles while making it more firm, elastic and youthful. Microneedling uses the body’s own repair system to improve the appearance. For example, controlled skin injury leads to collagen production, which then becomes a form of ant-aging.
At Honolulu MedSpa we offer our Microdermabrasion treatment as a stand alone service, or as an advanced service including PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). In laymen’s terms, microneedling + PRP becomes a result oriented facial that essentially uses your own blood to help promote the healthy activity of your skin cells. Our patients have noticed a decrease in skin issues, and a brighter, even and plumped up complexion. When asking for this service, ask for the PRP Facial.
If pain tolerance is a concern, fear not! The pain is very low considering numbing cream is always applied before the procedure is done. Some patients have noted an increase in tingling around the jawline, nose and forehead, but overall, the pain has been rated a 2-3 out of 10.
For those looking at doing an at-home microneedling, leave it to a professional when it comes to needles. Performing and advanced treatment such as microneedling could make your face worse and cause an infection or permanent injury. Always confirm you provider is trained, licensed and experienced in performing a Microneedling treatment.
We welcome questions and offer our patients free consultations to learn more about this service. Give us a call at 808-528-0888 to book your appointment.
Snoring is more than a bedtime annoyance. It may put you at a greater risk than those who are overweight, smoke or have high cholesterol. So just what causes snoring? Age, weight, alcohol consumption, smoking, medications, nasal and sinus problems and sleep posture. While mild snoring can be remedied by simple things such as changing your sleep posture, more aggressive snoring can be a serious health issue that shouldn’t be left untreated.
Here are some of the health risks of sleep apnea:
Strain on Heart. High blood pressure, which can increase in heart size creating a higher risk for heart attacks and strokes.
Chronic Headaches. Frequent morning headaches, which are due to levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the bloodstream.
Daytime Sleepiness. Not getting enough sleep throughout the night can cause many to feel tired and drowsy during the day. This will lead to poor work performance.
GERD. Digestive disease in which stomach acids back up into the esophagus and irritate its lining.
Mental Health Issues. It can affect your mental well-being, leading you to be cranky from a lack of sleep to serious depression.
Excess Weight. Half of overweight people have sleep apnea. This is because of the extra weight that collects around the neck, making it harder to keep breathing at night. Good news is, if you losing weight improves symptoms related to sleep disorders.
Snoring can take a toll on your health and also your relationship. Be proactive on learning the options that are right for you. You don’t have to live with uncomfortable, disruptive snoring. Take action and get help from a professional doctor. You’ll sleep better at night and perform better during the day. Most importantly, you will be be protecting your health!
Honolulu MedSpa is proud to offer SnorLase. A non-invasive laser treatment that corrects issues that can contribute to snoring. To book your complimentary consultation please give us a call at 808-528-0888
It’s finally that time of year again. Shaved ice pit stops, warmer temperatures and sunkissed skin. Before you bask yourself in the Hawaiian sun, make sure you’re protecting your skin for that healthy, summer glow. Transitioning your beauty regimen from Spring to Summer requires more than just a good sunscreen. We’ve compiled our must-have summer beauty products that will keep you glowing all season long.
After a full day’s worth of buildup from sunscreen, makeup or the sun, use a gentle cleanser that will break down excess sebum, makeup and other impurities without causing irritation.
Our pick: SkinMedica Facial Cleanser. An antioxidant-rich face wash ideal for all skin types. Camellia oleifera leaf extract neutralizes free radicals to prevent visible signs of aging from environmental aggressors while glycerin hydrates the skin, giving balance.
ADD A SERUM
The sun can cause havoc on the skin like hyperpigmentation, sun damage and dullness. Adding a serum works well with delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin, due to the high concentration of active ingredients.
Our pick: SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. This daytime, vitamin C serum provides environmental protection, softens lines, firms skin and brightens your complexion.
It’s never too hot for hydration. Your skin needs it year-round. You can put your heavy creams away in storage and opt for something lighter during the summer months.
Our pick: SkinMedica HA5. This moisturizing facial serum provides 8 continuous hours of deep hydration and has five types of hydrators that immediately go to work replenishing your skin’s hyaluronic acid. Ideal for all skin types.
For those with extremely dry skin that need the extra hydration, try the Ultra Nourishing moisturizer with TriHex technology from Alastin. This has unique combination of peptides that target collagen and elastin, while nourishing and hydrating the skin.
PROTECT WITH SPF
Always start your day with applying a sunscreen on your face, before you apply your makeup. This will act as a protective base and should always be a minimum of SPF 30.
Our pick: Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36. This is a fan favorite of Honolulu MedSpa as it’s lightweight, protects from both UVA/UVB rays and has a natural hint of color compatible with all skin types.
ADD A RETINOL
Retinols are always recommended, but if you’re having more fun in the sun than normal, it may not be wise to use your trusty retinol nightly. Consider rebuilding collagen and preventing anti-aging with the Alastin Reginerating Skin Nectar. Clear damage and debris on the skin while promoting healthy collagen and elastin.
If you would like to consult on a skin care routine that fits your lifestyle and skin needs, please contact Honolulu MedSpa at 808-528-0888. We do offer complimentary consultations Monday – Saturday by appointment.
Now go have some (protected) fun in the sun!
Nowadays, people are concerned with aging more than ever. We all want to live long, happy and healthy lives while trying to slow down the aging process as much as we can. It’s no wonder that the anti-aging market is a multi-billion dollar business. We are all searching for the best products that help correct our skin. While genetics do play a role on how we will age, daily habits and our lifestyle is more telling than how our parents aged over the years.
Just like our family medical history, the same will definitely go for our skin, but you also have a say in your lifestyle choices. Smoking, sun exposure, eating habits and overall health has a lot to do with how our skin ages. Another factor that can cause aging is stress. It will break down the skin on a cellular level, speeding up the aging process and leaving us to look much older than we truly are. Stress can also cause your skin to breakout, encourage hair loss, and breakdown collagen within the skin, ultimately causing more wrinkles.
If you choose to smoke, receive unprotected sun exposure, and do not choose a healthy diet, eventually it will catch up to you despite you having “good genes”.
The great news is that if you weren’t born into “great genes,” it’s never too late to start doing something about it. You can start eating healthy, getting enough sleep, using a proper skincare regimen suited for your skin type, wear sunscreen everyday, work out, and practice stress relieving exercises.
As time goes on you will notice the difference, and will know who actually takes great care of their skin and who doesn’t.

Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to go on a crazy diet or change everything you eat. It is simply about making healthier decisions and substituting or adding one new healthy habit at a time. No food can make you look younger and feel healthier overnight. But over time, getting the right nutrients can make a world of difference in how you feel about yourself.

Once upon a time (not that long ago, actually), I devoted a lot of time to taking care of my skin. I followed a multi-step morning AND evening skincare regimen. I used only professional quality products. I got facials and chemical peels to improve my complexion and slow the signs of aging.
But then, as my life continued to evolve, self-care began to fall by the wayside. I became a mother, and my morning and evening cosmetic routines changed drastically. My family moved to Hawaii, so the amount of time I spent outside in the sun increased. And most recently, I launched my business as an artist, which means that I am constantly squinting and frowning as I concentrate on painting details.
Don’t get me wrong; I still try to maintain my skin’s health. My basic routine consists of cleansing, moisturizing, and applying a sunscreen daily. I stay hydrated, try to eat healthy (most of the time), and I live an active lifestyle. But in the last three years I have seen dramatic changes in my skin. I’ve been increasingly unhappy with sun damage and fine lines that seem to become more noticeable by the day, and it was apparent that I needed to take preventative measures to keep my skin’s health under control.
Enter Honolulu Medspa! As I am becoming more familiar with the services offered here, I am learning that I don’t have to simply accept the current condition of my skin. I can tailor an entire treatment plan to smooth frown lines, correct sunspots and hyperpigmentation, and brighten my complexion. Every procedure I have undergone, whether it be a facial service, or an injectable treatment, has been administered by a friendly, professional staff member in a relaxing spa-like space. (And as the mother of a toddler, I do not take quiet time for granted!)
I look at each procedure as investment in myself, and I am so pleased with the results. I’m spending less time covering blemishes with makeup, thanks to treatments such as the Hydrafacial, and I feel much more confident in my natural appearance. Noticing the changes in my skin with the services received has given me the motivation to maintain Honolulu Medspa’s work by stepping up my at-home routine once again too. Check out my website. Stress comes in so many different forms where it can suddenly sneak up on you making you feel overwhelmed. Sometimes too much stress can actually cause more damage to the body than you realize. As April is Stress Awareness Month, it’s important to have strategies for coping when you feel overwhelmed by stress and need to quickly relax the mind and body.
Here are 5 quick and easy ways to help you deal with your stress at hand:
Exercise is a huge stress reliever and releases endorphins. Not only is it good for the mind, but you can actually get in a workout too. Grab a friend for moral support, or go it alone for some time to really clear your mind and think.
Start some breathing exercises to get more oxygen into your body and release tension throughout the body. You can do this anytime or anywhere. There are even some free apps that can help guide you with meditating, even if it’s just for 5 minutes.
Remove Yourself From Negativity
Negative thoughts and criticism never help the situation. Shift your attention to things that do help. Stay close to people that care about you, do something nice for yourself, set a goal and complete it.
Different scents have different effects on the brain. Some have the ability to calm and relax, which is why aromatherapy can be useful for people dealing with a lot of stress. Try adding lavender oil in a diffuser or even applying it under your nose for an instant calming effect on the mind.
Listening to relaxing music can put your mind at ease. Have it playing in the background while you are working or even while you are driving. Music is an instant mood booster!
Wishing you a healthy, and stress free April!
Everywhere you turn these days, you often see everyone on their phones, rather than engaging in one another. Things are more self-service, automated and tech driven nowadays. The human touch is one of the first senses we knew and plays a vital role in our physical and psychological health, yet the physical touch has lessened in our technology culture. As we become more and more connected to society through the digital world, it can impact communications, relationships and our day-to-day.
So just how do we get back to feeling that human touch that we actually crave so much? After all, that’s what we used to know.
It all starts with getting back to basics.
At dinner time, have a rule that everyone puts away their phones to talk about each other’s day, and play a game afterwards. This is a family bonding time where everyone gets to unwind and feel connected.
Ask a friend out to lunch. Relationships with friends are extremely important. They are there for you when you need them. It’s always so nice to greet them with a huge hug and afterall, who doesn’t want a hug? They say 12 hugs a day is important to the human touch for growth and powerful energy in the body.
Engage with our kids more. Kids won’t always be kids. Soon they will grow up before our eyes, and we will be wishing they were still our little babies. Let’s play that game of catch with them, have them be your sous chef, and most importantly, hug them often, rub their back for no reason, and put your arm around them when reading a book.
#TREATYOSELF to a spa day! Sometimes before we can give it our all to our families, friends and/or our job, we need to make sure we are mentally and physically existent. We need to de-stress our mind and body to recharge to be the best version of ourself.
Getting a professional facial isn’t just for you to unwind, relax, or splurge once in a blue moon. They play a big role in keeping your skin healthy, balanced and youthful. Think of a facial as a “spring cleaning” for your skin. While practicing good skin care at home is key, you should also visit your aesthetician every 4-6 weeks for that hands-on deep cleaning. It takes that amount of time for the skin cells to move through a full life cycle of cell growth and make their way from the dermis to the surface of the skin where they are naturally sloughed off.
Each one of us can benefit from a professional facial, but those with acneic skin, clogged pores or brown spots, consistent care is required to always stay on top of the condition to get the skin looking clear. Facials offer many skin benefits, and some are in need of it more than others.
Benefits of a facial include:
- Expert skin analysis from our Aesthetician who understands your skin type and how to care for it.
- Professional strength exfoliation to smooth the skin, lighten discoloration from sun and breakouts.
- Both manual and mechanical extractions of blackheads and clogged pores to give you smooth, balanced skin.
- Intensive hydration to repair the skin’s moisture barrier to keep skin looking plump and dewy.
- Increased circulation for brighter and glowing skin.
- Once established, a regimen to maintain your results. Honolulu MedSpa offers a variety of facial add-ons to keep your skin looking its best.
- Professional guidance for your morning and nightime at-home regimen.
- Time for yourself.
We believe that clear skin can boost confidence. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important, as is regular facial appointments and proper home care. This all works together to leave you with the most healthy, rejuvenated, glowing skin.
